December 1, 2009 – North Hampton, NH – In today’s difficult economic environment the demand for food, clothing and support services has reached levels seldom, if ever seen on the NH Seacoast. Local food pantries are being stretched to the breaking point to meet the increased demand to care for a growing population of unemployed or underemployed, low income and elderly citizens. Amidst these challenges, a new pilot program known as the Food Providers Network (FPN) and involving the collaborative efforts of the United Way of Greater Seacoast, Rockingham Community Action, The NH Food Bank and UNH is underway to automate access to food pantry information using web technology. Among FPN goals are improved and rapid access to pantry locations, nutritional guidance, operation and services availability, distribution area, food inventories and households served. In addition, the FPN program expects to help pantries improve their cooperative interaction, allowing more effective communications to better assist those most in need. “Volunteer advocates or the pantries themselves can easily administer the program.” said Steve Thompson, Seacoast Center Director at RCA. Thompson adds, “Many food pantries operate on an island; FPN is designed to centralize pantry information thereby improving data access, communication and total outreach efforts.” BRD Associates of North Hampton is assisting these agencies fulfill the FPN mission by donating the technology services necessary to develop, host and support the pilot website. Accessibility is provided to the pantries, as well as local townships, civic organizations and other resources interested in supporting the humanitarian needs of NH citizens. “This has been a true labor of love for us” said Dennis Honan, President of BRD Associates.
